Child acting coach offers advice for budding stars
Do you want to be a star, or do you want your child to be one?

If so, the Academy of Dance Arts is the place to be on Sunday, when nationally known acting coach and child development expert Peter Sklar will talk to aspiring thespians and their parents.

Sklar has coached, directed or discovered hundreds of young actors and actresses, including Sarah Jessica Parker, Reese Witherspoon and Rick Schroeder.

The free lecture will provide insights into the relationship between self-esteem, health and professional success, as well as a behind-the-scenes look at some of the pitfalls an acting career, such as stage mothers, eating disorders and industry scams.

Sklar, who holds a master’s degree in education from Harvard, is the producer of an upcoming Broadway musical, “The Kid Who Played the Palace.”

Although the lecture, scheduled for 1 p.m., is free, reservations are required. Children under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent, and no one under age 6 will be admitted.

The Academy of Dance Arts is located at 336 Federal Road. Call (203) 775-1331.
